Jill Simmons Price, 63, of Rural Retreat, Virginia, passed away on July 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Born on December 20, 1962, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Jill was the firstborn of six children. She was a proud mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose humor, kindness, and generosity touched many people throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Amber Owens; her son-in-law, John Ritz; and her cherished granddaughters, Katie, Macey, Emmy, and Annie. She took great joy in watching Amber grow into the woman she became and was deeply proud of all she accomplished, as well as the beautiful family she created.
She is also survived by her loving siblings, Joy Simmons, Christy Simmons Hill, and David Simmons, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Jann Simmons and Jimmy Simmons; her nephew, Matt Bullion; her mother, Carole Blevins; her stepfather, David Blevins; and her father, James Simmons.
Jill most recently worked in food services at PATH (Positive Alternatives to Hospitalization) in Wytheville, where she cared for the "kiddos" through the meals she prepared and the kindness she showed each day.
What made Jill unforgettable, however, was not simply what she did, but who she was.
Jill was the comic relief in every difficult season. She had a gift for bringing laughter to even the heaviest moments and could somehow make even the hardest days feel lighter. Her humor was a comfort, her wit was quick, and her presence often brought relief exactly when it was needed most.
Jill was extraordinarily generous and would give whatever she had to anyone in need. She found joy in caring for others and will be remembered for her humor, generosity, and the comfort and laughter she brought to others.
In accordance with Jill's wishes, no public service will be held. Her family will gather privately for a meal in celebration of her life.
Even in life's hardest moments, Jill had a way of making people laugh, and that gift remains one of the greatest blessings she leaves behind.
