Richard Gregory Ford

Dec 5, 1950 — Oct 15, 2026

Richard Gregory "Greg" Ford, age 75, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Ridgecrest Manor in Duffield, Va.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having honorably served his country during the Vietnam War.

A naturally gifted musician, he possessed the remarkable ability to play virtually any instrument and often expressed his creativity by writing songs of his own.

He was a man of extraordinary skill and ingenuity. A perfectionist by nature, there was seemingly nothing he couldn't build, repair, or improve. His inventive spirit led him to design a mining cart in the 1970s. He was also a successful businessman, owning and operating Greg Ford Heating and Air.

Despite his many talents and accomplishments, his greatest joy was found in the simplest and most meaningful moments of life—having fun, making memories, and spending time with his children.

He was born December 5, 1950, to the late Joseph Edward Ford and Margaret Jaco Ford in Philippi, W. Va.

In addition to his parents, Greg was also preceded in death by his son who died in infancy, Matthew Dillon Ford; and a brother, George Garrid Ford.

He is survived by four children: Margo Sexton and husband, Shannon, of Abingdon, Va.: Talley Spangler and husband, Matt, of Maryville, Tenn.; Samantha Ford of Knoxville, Tenn.; and Tyler Ford and wife, Zoe, of Abingdon, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
