William Henry Crump

William Henry Crump, born May 27, 1932, joined the church triumphant on October 28,2026. He is survived by his loving wife of close to 50 years, Carolyn Schoenherr-Crump ; five children: Carol Joyce Paine (Scott) of Tampa, Florida; Geneele Crump of Elkhart, Indiana; Laurance Crump (Sherilyn) of Goshen, Indiana; Tracy McNeill (Jeffrey) of Bristol, Indiana and Todd Schoenherr (Lisa) of Ridgefield, CT. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friend and caretaker, Donna Hale, attentive niece, Julie Leenknegt and special friend Leonard Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lee and Frances Crump, and brothers, Edward and Robert.

Bill served in the United States Army for two years. He earned a bachelors degree at Lambuth college and a masters degree at Scarritt College and served United Methodist churches as director of Christian education in Tennessee, Georgia and Texas.

He obtained a second masters degree from the University of Georgia and practiced as a psychiatric social worker in Indiana and Tennessee. He and Carol owned and operated a bed and breakfast outside of Abingdon, VA for 15 years. He was a storyteller, actor and singer, made beautiful jewelry and origami creations, liked woodworking and was truly interested in people.

Bill was a faithful member of Sinking Springs Presbyterian church for the past five years, and particularly enjoyed the Monday sermon rap with fellow congregants.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, 136 E Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210, with the Rev. Kevin Campbell officiating.  A reception will follow in the parlor.
